Roski to Discuss Her Illustrations for ‘Mei Ling in China City’ at The Huntington

Gayle Garner Roski will speak about her first children’s book, Mei Ling in China City, with the book’s author, Icy Smith, at a special lecture being presented by The Huntington Library on Sunday, February 17.

Originally published in 2008, the book recounts the true story of a 12-year-old Chinese-American girl named Mei Ling, who during World War II was separated from her best friend, Yayeko Akiyama, when the Japanese-American girl and her family were interned in the Manzanar War  Relocation Center.

The event is free with admission. Children in attendance will receive a limited-edition coloring book that Roski specially created based on the book’s illustrations.

Roski to Exhibit in the 2019 Masters’ of the American West Exhibition at The Autry

Gayle Garner Roski is one of 64 artists exhibiting in the upcoming Masters’ of the American West Exhibition and Sale at the Autry Museum of the American West, on view beginning February 9, 2019.

For more than a decade, Roski has participated in this display, widely considered the country’s premier Western art show.

Her works in the 2019 event shine the spotlight on historic and beloved landmarks in Los Angeles, including one site that has a special link to actor Gene Autry – Melody Ranch. Once owned by the singing cowboy, Melody Ranch was the location at which many of Hollywood’s most famous western films and television shows were filmed. In this watercolor painting, Roski depicts a scene from the expansive Western town and includes an image of Autry and his on-screen companion, Champion the Wonder Horse, which lived on the ranch for many years.

Her other paintings in the exhibition include two other famed entertainment locations: Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and Hollywood Bowl.

USC Verdugo Hills Hospital to Display Roski’s Illustrations for ‘The Crooked Man’

Gayle Garner Roski’s illustrations for  The Crooked Man, His Doctor and His Angel will be featured as part of the permanent collection of the Healing Arts Exhibits at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, Calif.

The artist created these illustrations after traveling to Guatemala with the dedicated volunteers of Operation Walk, which gives the gift of mobility to those in need of knee replacement surgeries.

The book details the story of Rogelio Estrada, known to his friends as “the crooked man” because his legs were so bowed that he could no longer work.  Roski accompanied Estrada throughout his journey, and even witnessed the life-transforming surgery performed by Dr. Lawrence Dorr and his team, which replaced both of Estrada’s knees and straightened his legs.

Roski to Exhibit in Upon a Painted Ocean at The Irvine Museum Collection at UC Irvine

Gayle Garner Roski has been selected to participate in the Upon a Painted Ocean: An Ode to the California Coast, the upcoming exhibition at The Irvine Museum Collection at UC Irvine.  The display, on view from November 10, 2018, to March 30, 2019, celebrates the splendor fo the sun-filled coast and will spotlight works by important historic artists, including Guy Rose, Edgar Payne and William Wendt, as well as contemporary painters.

In this exhibition, Roski will show her Malibu painting from the “Los Angeles Millennium series.”

Roski Delivers Speech for Installation of New Dean at USC Roski School

Gayle Garner Roski participated in the Installation Ceremony for the new Dean of the USC  Roski School of Art and Design, which was held in early October at the university. Dean Haven Lin-Kirk, who had previously held the position of Vice Dean of Design, has been instrumental in the school being ranked No. 1 for Best Colleges for Design by niche.com,

Roski Selected as Jurist and Guest Artist for SLOPOKE Art Show

Gayle Garner Roski will exhibit in the Eighth SLOPOKE Art Show to be held October 5 to 7, 2018, in Solvang, California.

She was selected as the jurist and guest artist for this popular Central California art event, which features contemporary fine art of the West.

Her featured works including a number of her thoroughbred horse paintings created at two of the most storied racetracks in the United States – Santa Anita Park and Del Mar Racetrack.

Roski Watercolors Featured in the Exhibition Painting California

Gayle Garner Roski is one of the featured artists in the California Art Club’s Painting California exhibition, on view at the USC Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena from June 28 to July 29, 2018.

The exhibition shares the same title as the deluxe book published by Skira Rizzoli, which highlights 200 coastal paintings created by members of this historic arts organization.

Featured in the exhibition are three of Roski’s paintings from her “Healing Journey” series, including a painting of the Malibu pier that was published in the book.

Roski Exhibits in California Art Club 107th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition

Gayle Garner Roski is one of the exhibiting artists in the California Art Club’s 107th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, on view from June 10 to July 1, 2018

For this highly anticipated display of contemporary-traditional fine art, Roski created a painting of the famed museum for inclusion in her “Los Angeles Millennium 2000 to 2010” series. In the work, simply titled Natural History Museum, she made the museum’s extensive paleontological exhibition come to life, placing dinosaurs in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, one of the museum’s neighbors in Exposition. Park.

Roski to Exhibit in Art Matters 2018 at The Huntington

Gayle Garner Roski will be featured as a Keystone Artist in the upcoming “Art Matters 2018” exhibition at The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens May 4 to 6. The event, the fifth juried exhibition and sale of paintings and photographs presented by the San Marino League, raises funds for both ArtCenter and The Huntington. To celebrate the upcoming exhibition, participating artists gathered in the incomparable gardens of this famed institution for a “Paint-Out” during the week of April 16.

Roski to Participate in the 2018 Masters of the American West Exhibition at the Autry

Gayle Garner Roski is one of the invited nationally recognized artists participating in the Masters of the American West 2018 Exhibition and Sale, on view at the Autry Museum of the American West.  This year, Roski will have on display three of her latest paintings in her Los Angeles Millennium Series. The trio of works depict beloved landmarks in close proximity to the museum – Griffith Park, Griffith Observatory and the Los Angeles Zoo.
