Roski to Discuss Her Illustrations for ‘Mei Ling in China City’ at The Huntington

Gayle Garner Roski will speak about her first children’s book, Mei Ling in China City, with the book’s author, Icy Smith, at a special lecture being presented by The Huntington Library on Sunday, February 17.

Originally published in 2008, the book recounts the true story of a 12-year-old Chinese-American girl named Mei Ling, who during World War II was separated from her best friend, Yayeko Akiyama, when the Japanese-American girl and her family were interned in the Manzanar War  Relocation Center.

The event is free with admission. Children in attendance will receive a limited-edition coloring book that Roski specially created based on the book’s illustrations.
